What is a regular cab vs double cab?
Doesn’t it seem like it doesn’t matter where you look, pickups are everywhere? The days where pickup trucks were made only for work are in the past. Modern pickups can be upgraded to be as opulent as the most iconic brands in luxury. So, no matter if you want the lap of luxury or need a workhorse, there is a truck made for you. Once you decide if you need 4-Wheel Drive (or if RWD will suffice), the next big decision is to decide what cab type works best for you.
A regular cab pickup has just one row of seats with a small amount of legroom and storage space, as the name suggests. A regular cab pickup truck used to be the one way to buy trucks. In most regular cab pickup trucks, the seats almost touch the rear part of the cab. This style is the more utilitarian version of a truck and is normally found with manual locks and windows. A regular cab is a work pickup, not to haul your friends and family around.
As you could probably assume, an Extended Cab pickup (can also be called a Double Cab ) is just a Regular Cab with more room behind the front seating. When first introduced, extended cab pickups were only available for purchase as 2-door models and only had small jump seats behind the front row. These days they may be called a Double Cab pickup, these trucks now boast a second row of small doors for access to the rear cargo area. Even though there are 2 rows of seating, an Extended Cab truck wouldn’t be the ideal choice for long trips, even if it can carry more people.
While not as obvious as the other cab models, a Crew Cab pickup boasts four normal-size doors and the space to carry your ‘crew.’ Crew Cab trucks are built to haul more stuff and-or passengers. In some circles, these trucks have replaced the sedan as the family vehicle. A Crew Cab pickup truck’s bigger size and more powerful engines are not seen in the sedan world while still providing the luxuries and legroom that families desire.
